About this role

The Machine Shop at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre supports the Radiation Medicine Program by designing, fabricating, repairing, and modifying custom components and devices for patient care, research, and quality assurance. This apprentice role provides hands-on experience in a specialized medical environment. Work with materials such as metals, plastics, composites, and wood toward General Machinist certification.

Assist in design and fabrication of custom components while interpreting technical drawings to produce precision parts. Collaborate with clinicians, researchers, and technical staff on projects. Support CAD design, repair equipment, and maintain shop tools including hydraulic systems.

Join internal teams and external partners at UHN, Canada’s top research hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto. Operate in a hospital setting following strict safety protocols. Contribute to biomedical research in oncology and radiation medicine.

Enroll in an Ontario General Machinist apprenticeship to develop machining, CNC, and fabrication skills. Progress toward journeyperson certification in this temporary full-time role. Build expertise in a world-leading healthcare institution.

Requirements

  • Completion of or enrollment in a related technical program preferred
  • Basic knowledge of machining, materials, and fabrication processes
  • Understanding of trigonometry, geometry, and mechanical principles
  • Enrolment in an Ontario General Machinist apprenticeship
  • Familiarity with metals, plastics, composites, and wood
  • Basic proficiency in CAD and technical drawings
