Vale Base Metals supplies critical minerals transforming the future with industry-leading reserves of copper and nickel. We seek a Mining Engineering Trainee to join Mines Technical Services at the Copper Cliff Mine Complex. This permanent role delivers engineering support to Ontario Operations while maintaining professional conduct.

The trainee interfaces with operations, maintenance, process engineering, and facilities teams to identify improvement opportunities. Project options are evaluated for feasibility based on safety, cost impact, product quality, and operations. Technical support is provided to geologists, mining engineers, and geotechnical engineers.

The role operates within a diverse team of 13,000 committed to mineral security and responsible supply. Safety policies and legislative standards are followed at all times. An obsession with safety and risk management ensures all applicable plans are met.

Skills develop through hands-on engineering work supporting Ontario Operations. Opportunities arise to analyze and implement improvements in safety, productivity, and cost. The position builds abilities while contributing to a global business in transition.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in mining engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Takes initiative and self-directs to accomplish goals with minimum supervision.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with operations, maintenance, process engineering, and facilities teams to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Evaluate project options and assess feasibility based on safety, cost impact, product quality, and operations.
  • Provide technical support to geologists, mining engineers, and geotechnical engineers.
  • Identify, analyze, recommend, and implement opportunities for safety, productivity, and cost improvements.
  • Develop engineering skills for Ontario Operations while maintaining high professional conduct.
  • Follow Vale’s Safety Policy and legislative standards.
  • Demonstrate commitment to safety and risk management across all applicable plans.
